چکیده

In the words of Shepard the great sensitivity of Mycobacterium leprae to 4-4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS) was at first surprising (13) . The DDS sensitivity of some other mycobacteria was shown by Karlson ( 3) to be much higher. Since many new species of mycobacteria have been described since 1963, we thought it would be useful to tes t these and to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration ( MIC ) for the most sensitive ones. At the same time we made some observations on the antagonistic effect of paraaminobenzoic acid (PABA) on DDS, using M. ulcerans, M. kansasii, and M. gastri as test organisms.

Identification of cutaneous granuloma caused by Mycobacterium marinum using PCR method

Atypical Mycobacterium granulomatous skin infections are often accured by Mycobacterium marinum, M. ulcerans, M. fortuitum, and M. avium colonies. Skin infections probably originate from an environmental source such as contacting with aquatic animals, fish farming and swimming in the pools, and inoculate into skin through skin wounds, scratches, trauma, and surgery. The lesions appear as purple...

Extraction and biological evaluation of Mycobacterium kansasii extracellular vesicles as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections

Introduction: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are bacterial products with diverse biological roles. Like many microorganisms, Mycobacterium kansasii as a nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM), can naturally release EVs. The aim of the present study was the extraction and biological evaluation of M. kansasii as a vaccine candidate against mycobacterial pulmonary infections. Methods: After bacterial cul...

Detection of Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacteria Infection due to Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium kansasii in Patients Suspected of Tuberculosis in Isfahan, Iran

Several reports have indicated that infection with Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacteria (NTM) is increasing worldwide. Therefore, monitoring species causing micobacterial infection in any region is of great importance. This study was going to detect, differentiate, and identify pathogenic mycobacteria in primary clinical samples. Eighty samples collected from tuberculosis suspected patients in Isfahan/I...

Current treatment of atypical mycobacteriosis.

BACKGROUND Atypical mycobacteria are a heterogeneous group of organisms that are of increasing importance because of the growing number of infections they cause. This rising rate of infection is due mainly to the increase in the number of susceptible (and especially immunosuppressed) patients. OBJECTIVE To revise the currently used treatment schemes of the most commonly isolated atypical myco...

Inteins in mycobacterial GyrA are a taxonomic character.

The A subunit of DNA gyrase in mycobacteria is frequently subjected to splicing events as its gene, gyrA, harbours an insertion encoding an intein. Investigation of a number of different isolates of Mycobacterium kansasii, Mycobacterium malmoense, Mycobacterium marinum, Mycobacterium ulcerans and Mycobacterium xenopi demonstrated that the presence of GyrA inteins is not random but a taxonomic c...
